Singer/Songwriter, who started performing at an early age in churches and also in various places such as theaters and auditoriums. She credits her father for her singing skills and stamina. As she remembered those early years of vocal training from her father, who is a Minister of the Gospel "Rev. Tranquilino Mahusay" who also was a powerful singer, those were the days of hardwork, discipline and determination. She recalls that at an early age her father would let her and her siblings sing each morning. He would give us pointers and taught us how to express ourselves through singing. He doesn't want us to just stand like a candlestick. At the age 14, she then started walking with her father at the countryside of Leyte, Philippines, since transportation was very limited. She walked with her father for kilometers going up and down the hills and mountains of the province.
During those times, she received a one on one training from her father which she said had totally changed her singing and brought it to the next level. She walked and sang for hours and take note "under the heat of the sun". Her father told her to run to the top of the hill and once she reached the top she would sing as loud as she could facing the wind. Not only that, when they walked beside the coastline she would then face the ocean and sing so loud until her voice is louder than the sound of the waves.
Both of her parents were very supportive of her that they agreed for her to study music at Colegeo de la Inmaculada Concepcion which she received a degree of Bachelor of Music in Music Ed. Though she never had any formal training in piano because her parents can't afford to send her for piano lessons yet a good talent will always shine. During her last year in college, she was asked by one of the teachers to compose the music for the upcoming musical "Adiornamento" in which she willingly obliged. The musical became a huge success in Cebu City, Philippines and on her graduation day she also received the Performing Arts Award.
After her graduation, she was requested to compose the music of another musical play, San Vicente de Paul, Tawo, Santos, Amahan sa Mga Kabus - St. Vincent de Paul, The Man, The Saint, The Father of the Poor. The Musical had a tremedous impact from all sectors that it was even staged in different provinces of the Philippines and she even got a good recommendation from the head of Saint Vincent de Paul in Cebu City, Philippines. She also was blessed to be able to sing solo on a musical in a national level "Joseph the Dreamer" (Philippines) and she received great reviews with her singing. The comment: Her singing is the show stopper.
But her destiny didn't stop in the Philippines, in 1997, Grace then immigrated to America. In mind was to help the church that brought her here in Teaneck,NJ. She never realized that God's plan is higher than hers. She became a member of the Praise and Worship Team of New Life Covenant Church until now and is also a Worship Minister at her church and a composer.
Her life changed when she met the man of her dreams. She tied the knot with Vincent Bellizzi in 1998, who she said "is very instrumental and a force that encouraged her to achieve greater things and never give up".
She became a member of the McDonald's New York Metro Gospel Choir. She also did off broadway "Your Arms Too Short To Box With God". She feels honored to be under the direction of A. Curtis Furrow a five times Emmy Award Winner director who graciously gave her the chance to sing in different venues. She was blessed to be given an opportunity as back up for the Duchess of Gospel Music Dr. Emily "Cissy" Houston, Melba Moore and other gospel singers. She had a privilege to sing solo and also together with the McDonald's Choir at the New York Court House for the Black History Month 2003, at the Rockefeller Center for Meals on Wheels, Schomberge Theater in Harlem, FOX 5, Madison Square Park, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, NJPAC, Palace Theater, New York Town Hall, Woodburry Commons, Democratic Convention in NY, the Hilton for Ebony Magazine, Balliester Ballroom, Russian Tea Room, McDonald's Coproprate Meeting at the Marriot,Ronald McDonald's, Rothman Auditoriom at Fairleigh Dickinson University for a Basketball benefit show and sung numerous times for the Teaneck Police Department, Teaneck, NJ.
Recently, Grace attended a meeting for Indie Artists at Nashville, TN. She did not expect to get picked to sing at the Nashville Convention Center but God had a plan, her name was picked and just as soon as she opened her mouth there was an overwhelming response among her peers and other people in the music industry. Her singing changed the atmosphere in the place.
